One Paragraph Review: Sonic and Sega All-Stars Racing

by Andrew Hayward

Mario Kart‘s trademark racing formula has been aped by everything from Final Fantasy to Woody Woodpecker, but Sonic & Sega All-Stars Racing – seemingly a tired cash-in from a fading brand — offers perhaps the most inspired take to date. The immensely colorful and creative track designs are some of the best seen in this done-to-death genre, and the spit-shined visuals make for a true aesthetic treat. Difficulty and handling concerns weigh a bit on the overall experience, but Sonic’s exploits haven’t been this fun since the year Chocobo Racing seemed like reasonable idea.
